The shape of the journey
Our advanced training is open enrollment. You can begin your journey the moment you join our school. It is designed for teachers who have completed a 200‑hour training and are ready to go deeper.
The advanced training is built on a Vinyasa flow style of yoga. Around that foundation, it covers a blend of Yin, Restorative, Yoga Nidra, and sound healing, with advanced variations of the postures, breathing, meditation, and mudras. You will deepen your study of yoga philosophy and traditional texts, explore the anatomy of the human body all the way into its energy anatomy, and take the business of yoga further, in the studio and online. Complimentary access to our Restorative workshop, Yin workshop, and Inversions Workshop is included in the training.
Everything except the live calls is available on demand, day and night, beautifully produced in gorgeous locations around the world. You journey through the curriculum in your own space and at your own pace.
What you will carry with you
By the end of this advanced training, you will be able to:
- Teach advanced Vinyasa with confident sequencing, transitions, and peak poses.
- Lead classes beyond the flow: Yin, Restorative, Mandala, Tripsichore, and a dharma class of your own.
- Thread the subtle body through your teaching: the koshas, the kleshas, the chakras, mudras, and mantra.
- Coach inversions with your voice alone, from headstand to handstand.
- Teach up to seventy percent of a class off the mat, leading with voice and presence.
- Carry your Sanskrit further, from pronunciation to writing the script.
- Analyze any class like a teacher of teachers, and evaluate your own with honesty.
The rhythm of every chapter
The advanced training is divided into eight chapters. Every chapter moves through the same eight parts.
Mindfulness Meditation
A daily, judgment‑free practice that teaches you to slow racing thoughts, let go of negativity, and calm the mind and body. Every chapter begins here.
Vinyasa Masterclass
A full 75‑minute advanced masterclass: Dharma, Mandala, Power, Rocket, and more. You practice as a student first, then analyze the class the way a teacher of teachers would.
Skill Development
Talks and lectures in deeper study of yoga philosophy and the traditional texts, and an in‑depth look at the anatomy of the human body, all the way into its energy anatomy and how it lives inside the poses.
Hands‑On Practice
A physical breakdown of the advanced variations and their assists, and practice teaching the different styles of yoga you meet along the journey.
Subtle Masterclass
A second, quieter masterclass in each chapter: Yin, Restorative, Yoga Nidra, sound healing. The advanced teacher learns to hold stillness as skillfully as movement.
Self‑Reflection
A deliberate habit of paying attention to your own thoughts, emotions, decisions, and behaviors, held through reading, journaling, and study.
Prepare and Upload
You record yourself teaching the chapter’s sequence and upload it to us. You will be teaching to the Invisible Student behind the camera. No one else needs to be in the room.
Feedback
A mentor reviews your video and sends you detailed, personal feedback. Then the next chapter of your journey unlocks.
This is not a course you watch. It is a practice you deepen. Each chapter builds on the one before it, using the power of storytelling, so everything comes together in a logical structure that lets you create your own schedule around the training.
Where your 300 hours grow
Yoga Alliance measures every advanced RYS 300 by five Educational Categories, each with a required minimum. Here is where your 300 hours grow.
Techniques, Training, and Practice
50 hours minimumThe advanced practice, from every side. Two masterclasses in every chapter, Vinyasa and subtle, across Dharma, Mandala, Power, Rocket, Tripsichore, Yin, Restorative, and sound healing. You will study the history and techniques of meditation, work with mudras and mantras all the way to writing your own, learn the sound of OM from its origin to its use in class, write a Yoga Nidra, build peak poses, and take inversions apart until you can coach them with your voice alone.
Teaching Methodology
5 hours minimumThe advanced craft. You analyze every masterclass you take, the way a teacher of teachers would: its structure, its language, its cueing, its feeling tone. You study the use of music in class, down to beats per minute, and learn to weave dharma, theme, and silence into a class that lands.
Anatomy and Physiology
15 hours minimumDeep dives into the shoulder and upper body, the ankle, knee, and hip, and the body’s eleven major systems and how yoga serves them. For every advanced pose, the muscles, joints, and bandhas at work. Then further inward than the foundational training goes: the koshas, the nadis, and the chakra system explored pose by pose.
Yoga Philosophy, Lifestyle, and Ethics
30 hours minimumThe Yoga Sutras and the Yamas and Niyamas at advanced depth, this time turned toward your own blocks. The Bhagavad Gita read against its modern retelling in The Legend of Bagger Vance. The kleshas and the gunas, the story of Hanuman, and the question of your sva‑dharma. And the ethics of teaching itself: boundaries with students, scope of practice, and when and how to touch, taught as required contact hours, not a page to sign.
Practicum
30 hours minimumYou teach, chapter after chapter, and you are seen. Every chapter closes with a teaching video and detailed mentor feedback, and Yoga Alliance requires that at least five hours are spent actively teaching as the lead instructor. By the end, you will teach a complete class covering all ten sequences, half of it off the mat.
Yoga Alliance asks that 270 of the 300 hours be contact hours, at least 45 of them live. Our weekly Thursday calls carry that thread. Beyond the minimums, the remaining hours are the school’s to place, and ours lean into advanced practice, the subtle body, and the music and sound that make this school what it is.
The path, chapter by chapter
Eight chapters. The same path you first walked as a student, now at advanced depth. By the final exam, you will teach all ten sequences as one complete class.
-
Chapter One
Engage
The path begins again, deeper. You write your storyboard, take the seat of the teacher, and meet the mindfulness practice that will walk beside you for the whole training.
-
Chapter Two
Heat
The honest work of unlearning. You examine what blocks your own learning, then write and teach a dharma class of your own.
-
Chapter Three
Extend
A Padma Mudra flow into the heart chakra. Anahata, arm balances, and deeper core work, woven into a dance‑like practice.
-
Chapter Four
Equilibrium
A full class taught one hundred percent off the mat, threading the story of Hanuman to its peak pose. You learn what a voice alone can carry.
-
Chapter Five
Earth
Mandala Vinyasa and rhythm. You sequence in circles, create a rhythm stretch flow with a motif of your own, and read the Bhagavad Gita against its modern retelling.
-
Chapter Six
Fire & Deep Center
Tripsichore enters the practice, and your teaching moves to seventy percent off the mat. The business of yoga deepens alongside.
-
Chapter Seven
Expand & Lengthening
Sanskrit in your own handwriting. You craft four class openings and closings that carry a theme, and teach a Yin class of your own.
-
Chapter Eight
Enlightening & Surrender
Rocket Ashtanga, and inversions coached with your voice alone: headstand, forearm stand, handstand. Then the final exam. A complete class across all ten sequences, and a written reflection worthy of a magazine spread.
How we walk beside you
Assessment here is not a single test at the end. It is continuous, and it flows both ways.
Every chapter closes with a teaching video that a mentor personally reviews. The feedback is detailed and specific, and the next chapter opens only when you are ready for it. And after every masterclass you take, you complete a written analysis of it, learning to see a class the way a mentor sees yours.
The advanced training ends with two final assessments. A complete class covering all ten sequences, threaded with a theme and a mudra of your choice, taught half on the mat and half off. And a written exam unlike any other: a magazine feature about your journey, written by you.
You set the pace. You are never alone.
We meet every Thursday for our live Gather Round calls, in two groups so the whole world can join. The calls are interactive and they change week to week. Discussion, guided meditation, live masterclasses and flows, and students teaching. They are your connection to the mentors, to other students, and to the path itself, and they are where the live contact hours Yoga Alliance requires of an advanced training are carried.
We encourage you to join us, and we understand that not everyone can come every week. That is what the recordings, the one‑on‑one sessions, and our live web chat are for. Any time you have a question, a mentor is within reach.
Everyone moves through this training differently, depending on your goals and your days. Three hours a day completes the journey in about one hundred days, a little over three months. Take longer if life asks you to. The training will wait for you.
